Businesses should view the criteria as a tool for improving their business. The DSES Office never reveals the identity of businesses that apply and do not succeed in gaining membership to the scheme. The scheme's main objective is to help businesses applying the criteria for service excellence to their advantage. Unsuccessful applicants to the scheme will be given a chance to reapply Free of charge after three months of their last submission. The reapplying period is valid for three months. However, businesses that were not able to take advantage of this offer within this grace period may reapply again the following year.

Some businesses will have no difficulty in immediately satisfying the criteria, while others may need to improve in few areas. Naturally, some businesses at the lower end of the spectrum would need to seriously consider embarking on a concentrated customer service improvement drive if they wish to compete with DSES members. The minimum entry requirements is based on meeting customers needs and expectations, together with embracing the ethical principles and management practices outlined in the criteria for the scheme. The stages and procedures of the application process have been kept as simple and as short as possible.
